Welcome to Optimal Health Insider – Edition 6
What a great opportunity we all have to slow down a little and prepare for darker and colder times ahead!
It’s our nature to know what’s ahead, and to prepare.
It’s also in our nature to value what we have, and what we’ve enjoyed. (How about that beautiful summer? I challenge you to write down your 10 best summer memories…an exercise which soothes the soul and changes brain chemistry for the better!)
I’m already seeing people succumbing to illness we usually associate with “back to school”…the cold and flu season is upon us.
It’s time to remind myself, and all of you, that how we live, eat/drink, manage stress, and exercise our body/mind/soul all have an impact on our immune health.
The mainstream medical approach to this season involves flu shots for everyone (or ELSE…!), and prescription pads ready to dole out antibiotics for what are often viral illnesses.
We can and DO take a different approach at UPHM.(Full disclosure: I prescribed antibiotics yesterday, like a good doctor should, when it’s necessary!)
Our immune strength depends on a whole-body emphasis, including staying hydrated, rested, fed (no sugar; organic and clean real foods), and active (but not too active).
Patients at UPHM know about our foundation-building emphasis… one that helps us build immune strength.
I love the power of plant “medicines” to help us naturally fortify our defenses, whether it’s elderberry, echinacea, ginger, garlic or andrographis.
This list goes on and on. Let’s not forget Vitamin D!
